What is the Biologic (Organic) Agricolture?
Organic agriculture is a method
of agricultural production, which enables the production of quality products
by preserving the natural resources and the environment, by respecting the
ecosystem and men's, plants' and animals' health. It is regulated in
different countries all over the world by laws and regulations and is
defined at an international level by IFOAM guidelines (International
Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements).
Organic agriculture
focuses on the fertility and salubrity care of the soil, which is the
foundation around which all the activities are carried out within the
company revolve. Furthermore, the process of production is regulated in
detail in all the phases and entails:
Vegetal production regulations;
Animal production regulations;
Regulations for the preparation and labelling of products.
The standards entail the
respect of preventive defense practices that the company must adopt for the
vegetal and animal productions (use of local varieties and breeds, crop
diversification, seeds and material of propagation of organic origin, mixed
crops, animal welfare, etc.). Furthermore, in all the phases of production
and preparation, the use of synthesis chemicals and of products containing
GMOS is prohibited. In the end, both during the production and processing
phase of products, the adoption of precautionary measures must be foreseen,
in order to avoid phenomena of indirect environmental contamination with
products whose use is prohibited.
The companies applying the method
of organic agriculture and wishing to place their products on the market and
to use the relating indications on their labels must furthermore be
controlled and certified by a qualified and independent certification body,
which works according to the international standard EN 45011.
